Notification of Available Funding

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA), Law Enforcement / Traffic Safety Division (LETS) announces the availability of grant funds for law enforcement agencies.

These grant funds will be made available from the FY2009 Byrne JAG Program and will be awarded to law enforcement agencies only. These funds are intended for the purchase of electronic finger print scanning systems, digital cameras, various digitizing equipment necessary to meet new mandatory reporting requirements, in-car video camera systems, and e-citation / e-crash equipment. The maximum award will be $25,000 and will not require any matching funds.

Sheriff’s departments will be given priority of award due to mandated requirements for digitizing and reporting criminal sex offender information. 

·                     Applicants must be UCR compliant according to ACJIC and will be required to identify in their grant application, relevant to the request:

·                     capabilities and limitations for digitizing and reporting finger prints, palm prints, and mug shots

·                     how many vehicles are in the department

·                     how many vehicles are assigned to traffic duty

·                     how many vehicles are already equipped with in-car video cameras and e-citation / e-crash equipment and how many vehicles are not equipped.

All applications are subject to the grant application process established by this office, in accordance with State and Federal laws and guidelines. All applications should be submitted on the new JAG / DH Grant Application Forms with required Attachments. All subgrant awards are subject to the managerial requirements set forth in the Sub-Grantee Administrative Manual (SAM). The application is not on line but can be obtained via email from Mr. Randy Ray at randy.ray@adeca.alabama.gov   

Applications from the sheriff’s departments will be accepted beginning January 11, 2010.

All other applications will be accepted beginning January 18, 2010.
