CMO 60 - Core Curriculum Mini Training

This training is primarily offered for elected officials needing “Duties of the Mayor and Council” and/or “General Powers of Municipalities” to complete the required core curriculum for the CMO Program. Training will take place at League Headquarters in Montgomery on Tuesday, August 21st from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Cost to attend is $45. Registration is limited to 50 people.
This session is approved for two (2) Basic, Advanced or Emeritus hours in the Certified Municipal Official Program. These two (2) hours also meet required core curriculum hours, if needed. Duplicate credit hours will not be awarded for training sessions in the core program nor within the last two years in the Advanced or Emeritus Programs.

The Municipal Leadership Institute will provide you with the training you need to solve and plan for problems that impact you & your municipality before they arise. Presentations by area experts will be given on timely issues that confront today’s local elected officials. Exhibits will open at 10:30 a.m. on October 4. This unique showcase will offer an excellent opportunity for vendors & municipal officials to meet. Plan to connect with exhibitors and discover valuable tools for solutions to problems as well as innovative ideas for future planning.
Topics Include: Community Engagement and Community Engagement Roundtable Discussions, Youth Councils and Your Municipality, The Public Purpose Doctrine, Grant Writing, Public Records (Core Elective– 0.5 credit hour) and Electronic Records Retention
This Institute has been approved for six (6) Basic, Advanced or Emeritus hours in the Certified Municipal Official Program. 0.5 ofthe 6 approved hours meet core curriculum requirements. If you have already taken the core courses that will be offered at theInstitute, duplicate core hours will not be awarded. Any municipal official or municipal personnel may register for the Institute, butonly elected officials will be awarded credit hours in the CMO Program.
The League’s CMO graduation ceremony for those who have earned their Basic, Advanced, and Emeritus CMO designations will also be held during the Leadership Institute. For those attending both the Institute and the CMO graduation, registration and payment are required.

NOTE: ALM requires a certificate of general liability file on file for each exhibitor. This can be a “proof only” copy and does not require ALM listed as an additional insured. This should be uploaded during the registration process.

The League has expanded the Certified Municipal Official Training Program to include LIVE webinar training and ANYTIME training. For mayors and councilmembers, webinar training and successful completion of a test on material presented will meet credit hours in the Basic, Advanced or Emeritus programs. Need core curriculum hours? Watch for core curriculum training offered by webinars. You can ask questions live during the training or submit questions by email to our legal staff following a live or anytime training. Our in-person League events are valuable and we’ll always offer them, but online and anytime training will have a place too. We think you will find the addition of webinars a helpful resource to provide training for elected officials and municipal personnel. We hope to “see” you online soon!

Municipal Sales Tax in Alabama
Sales and use taxes are the largest source of revenue for most Alabama municipalities. As a result, it is vital that you understand the relationship between your municipality, your merchants, and the Alabama Department of Revenue. This session will provide an overview of the laws and regulations governing municipal sales and use taxes in Alabama, including how state and federal tax laws and developments may impact this important revenue source.

The League has made several of its most popular CMO training courses available on DVD. These courses are a valuable resource for municipalities to provide training for municipal personnel who did not attend the live training. Mayors and councilmembers who did not attend the live training can order select DVDs and earn credit hours in the CMO Program. Note: Read description to see if the DVD selected offers credit hours. Successful completion of a test on material presented is required to earn credit hours.
